Save the date for the CAP Art Auction & After Party on the evening of Saturday, March 16, 2024, to celebrate a legacy of activism. The CAP Art Auction was created by a small group of artists, harnessing the power of art as a means of social change and continues to this day to be a meaningful way to bring together our community in support of HIV advocacy and health equity. This dynamic evening will be led by mistress of ceremonies Alexis Campbell Starr & fundraising ambassador Johnna Wells as we look back on CAP’s forty years of impact!

In our four decades of work as an organization, we have sought to challenge the values and norms in our culture. We strive to create a safe, welcoming, and affirming care community while simultaneously breaking down barriers to access. We envision a more inclusive and compassionate world together. Join us to honor these forty years of activism at CAP and help shape the next forty ahead!

Capitol Idea! is the annual happy-hour fundraiser for CAP’s Public Policy & Advocacy program, which advocates at the local, state, and federal levels for public policies that promote the health and wellness of people living with HIV, LGBTQ+ communities, and people of color. At this year’s event, we’ll present CAP’s 2023 Advocacy Award to one of our legislative champions, Oregon State Representative Dacia Grayber; celebrate CAP’s victories in 2023; and preview the fights to come.

Please join us for our 35th Annual Art Auction & After Party, a fabulous evening of art, community, and advocacy benefiting CAP + Our House. This year’s event theme, Surreal Soirée, is a celebration of the unconventional, unique, and imaginative.

Surrealism aims to revolutionize human experience. It balances a rational vision of life with one that asserts the power of the unconscious and dreams. The movement’s artists find magic and strange beauty in the unexpected and the uncanny, the disregarded and the unconventional. At the core of their work is the willingness to challenge imposed values and norms, and a search for freedom.

In our work at CAP & Our House, we too seek to challenge the values and norms in our community. We strive to reimagine how we can create a safe, welcoming, and affirming care community while simultaneously breaking down barriers to access. We dream of and envision a more inclusive and compassionate world together, so we hope you will join us in our imagining as we celebrate an evening of endless wonder!

World AIDS Day is an opportunity to fight against HIV transmission, support people living with HIV, and to commemorate those we have lost.

Honor this special day with the CAP Ambassador Council—join us at Sissy Bar for drag bingo on Thursday, Dec 1st from 6–8 pm. The event will be hosted by the fabulous Lala Benét! Bingo cards are $5—or $4 if you show up wearing red or 80’s attire!

About our 2022 Curator | Tammy Jo Wilson

Tammy Jo Wilson is a black artist, curator, and arts organizer residing just south of Portland, Oregon in historic Oregon City. She received her BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art and her MFA from San Jose State University. She co-curated the exhibit An Artistic Heritage in 2019, Art Makes History and You are Not a Robot in 2020. Wilson started curating the traveling exhibition Black Matter in 2020, featuring all Oregon-based black artists. Wilson is co-founder and President of the arts organization Art in Oregon. A statewide visual arts non-profit working to foster culturally rich regional communities through partnerships, advocacy, and investment in artists, businesses, educational spaces, and community spaces. Additionally, She has worked in the art department at Lewis & Clark College as the Visual Arts & Technology Program Manager for the past eleven years. In her own art practice, Wilson has exhibited her work nationally and was awarded the Leland Ironworks Golden Spot Artist Residency in 2017, performed in the SALT: Above a Whisper at Shaking the Tree Theatre in 2018, and was featured in the two women exhibit Biological Dissonance at the Parrish Gallery in Newberg, Oregon in 2019. She has solo exhibitions of her artwork at the Gretchen Schuette Gallery in January 2022 and the Rogers Gallery from January-April 2022.

We absolutely could not accomplish half the work we do without the commitment of incredible volunteers like you! Your commitment to CAP makes such a huge impact to our clients and our community, and we honestly can't say thank you enough. But we can still try right? Every year, CAP's staff honors our volunteer and the incredible work they do at a huge event we call "Party for the People". There will be a photo booth, raffle prizes, food and drink, music, dancing, and tons of awards to go around! Let us show how head over heels we are for you, and mark your calendar for "Party for the People" on February 13, 2020. 

Cascade AIDS Project and Urban League of Portland are proud to honor National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) on February 7 with a day of education and free HIV testing. 

National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is observed each year on February 7 to “increase HIV education, testing, community involvement, and treatment among black communities”. Coordinated by the Strategic Leadership Council, thousands of organizations and groups across the world organize to address HIV disparities that exist within the Black community nationally and globally. This year’s NBHAAD theme, “Together for Love: Stop HIV Stigma” raises awareness that we all have a role to play in stopping HIV stigma.

The event will take place on February 7, 2020 at the Urban League of Portland’s main location (10 N Russell St). From 3:30-7pm there will be free walk-in HIV testing, PrEP educational talks, safer sex discussions, raffles giveaways (including a $100 Nike gift card), and food. Transportation assistance is available!
