Standing Together: CAP’s Response & Actions on Federal Challenges
Dear CAP Community,
It is in times of uncertainty that the power of community shines. Recent federal executive orders and disruptions have introduced new challenges for our organization. We want to assure you that CAP is taking proactive steps to withstand these targeted attacks on the compassionate care we provide, and intend to do everything in our power to continue serving the community.
Where We Stand
Recent court rulings have temporarily halted many of the intended effects of the executive orders. These injunctions offer both a brief respite, and more importantly, a crucial window for strategic action. While we closely monitor legal developments, we are using this time to strengthen our response and ensure long-term service sustainability.
Actions We’re Taking
Securing Legal Expertise – CAP has obtained pro bono legal counsel to help us assess the risks to our services and funding, and understand our rights and options, as we anticipate the effects of the Executive Orders if they are ultimately allowed to go into effect.
Building Coalitions for Gender-Affirming Healthcare – CAP has formed two coalitions of local providers of gender-affirming care--one focused on service provision and one focused on resource-building. Both aim to safeguard our capacity to provide life-saving, evidence-based medical services.
Protecting Access to Care – We continue to work closely with state legislators and healthcare partners to pursue funding and safeguard access to essential health and wellness services in Oregon and Washington.
Proactive Crisis Response – Our leadership team meets daily to assess and address evolving challenges, ensuring we remain ahead of potential impacts that could cause harm to our community.
Our Community, Our Strength
We recognize the uncertainty and anxiety that accompanies these federal threats, and we know the journey ahead will be hard-fought. Please know that CAP is working tirelessly to find solutions despite the challenges. Our strength lies in our preparation, partnerships, and unwavering dedication to this incredible community.
We will continue to provide updates as this situation develops. In the meantime, if you have any concerns or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Together, we remain resilient.
In Solidarity,
