New Seasons Milwaukie Marketplace Becomes Supporting Partner of Esther’s Pantry
We are thrilled to announce a new partnership between the recently-opened New Seasons Milwaukie Marketplace and Esther’s Pantry. New Seasons will support Esther’s Pantry through their food recovery program. Esther’s Pantry is Oregon’s first LGBTQ+ affirming food pantry, and serves hundreds of community members each month. Esther’s began as a way to support those living with and affected by HIV. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Esther’s has opened its doors to the whole community, with a particular focus on immigrants and trans folks.
Since New Seasons Market opened in 2000, it has been their mission to connect the community to good food. As a representative for New Seasons shared: “As the world’s first Certified B Corporation grocer, we value and cultivate long-term partnerships with local organizations devoted to social responsibility, like Esther’s Pantry—and have used business as a force for good, with a triple bottom line focused on people, the planet, and profit.
Our partnerships support the creation of greater food access and equity. Food access and security is a significant issue in Oregon, as in other parts of the United States. Due to systemic bias and discrimination which deepens and reinforces the root causes of hunger, people of color, immigrants, migrant workers, refugees, single mothers and caregivers, and trans and gender expansive individuals face hunger at 2-4 times higher than the average rate. Which is why we donate to, sponsor, volunteer with, and show up for our partners—we’re all in this together.”
Thank you, New Seasons Milwaukie Marketplace! CAP and Esther’s Pantry are grateful for your dedication to food security and the impact of partners like you in supporting our work.
