Trans Day of Remembrance
Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is honored annually on November 20th to memorialize the trans, nonbinary and gender nonconforming people who were murdered in the previous year. TDOR also serves to raise awareness and show solidarity with the trans community—especially for those who are most affected by violence against the trans community, including Black trans women and trans sex workers.
In Portland, Oregon, you can gather with community in a few ways on TDOR:
Black and Beyond the Binary Collective is hosting a special event on November 17th for Black and brown queer people, Trans Diaspora of Rejuvenation. Attendees can sign up in advance for food and a queer care package. BC3 is located at 5633 SE Division St. Portland, OR 97206.
Portland State University’s Queer Resource Center is hosting a TDOR event, Honoring Those Lost to Transphobic Violence. The event will be hosted by end-of-life doula and educator Jamie Thrower. When: November 20th, 2023, 5–7pm. Where: Native American Student and Community Center.
This TDOR, please join us in mourning the loss of our beloved trans community members. On behalf of all of us at CAP, Our House and Prism Health, we offer our deepest condolences to their friends, family and communities. We stand with the trans community in the fight against stigma, violence and oppression. Together, we are working towards a world in which all trans people are cherished, safe and receive the care and support they need.
